Blue Sparks:
Phil Aceto - Guitar, Vocals
Kerry Kennedy - Guitar, Vocals
Alana Amram - Bass, Vocals
Donnie Myers - Drums
Every once in a great while a band comes along and their music is both familiar and exotic. This is Blue Sparks. Phil Aceto, Kerry Kennedy, Alana Amram and Donnie Myers create music that is rooted in a multitude of classic (if you're a fan of Television, The Slits or The Pixies) styles. Girl group harmonies - jittery manic guitars - angular bass and kinetic drumming define their sound...
Having played in local bands for several years, Alana and Kerry decided to start their own outfit in the summer of 2001. Finding another singer and guitarist would be easy - Kerry worked at a local record store where she had the chance to suss customers' taste and then pop the eternal question - 'do you perhaps sing and play guitar?' Enter Phil Aceto. Drummer Donnie Myers (ex-Stiffs), plied with copious amounts of booze and other stimulants, signed on and Blue Sparks was born.
Working the fertile NYC underground, Blue Sparks gained attention quickly. Hand picked to open for ? and the Mysterians at CBGB led to a number of high profile shows throughout 2002. Dates with the Star Spangles, the Witnesses, the Warlocks and the Realistics allowed the band to flesh out its sound and grow their audience. Although sometimes (mistakenly) lumped in with the current "garage" revival, one listen to songs like "Car Crash", "Downtown" or "Like Diamonds Should" will reveal music much more diverse and eclectic than you'll find in your typical Sonics tribute band.
Currently finishing their debut EP, Blue Sparks appeared on the Kanine Records compilation "NY: The Next Wave". They will continue to tour incessantly, write great songs and do all in their power to eradicate scoundrels from the White House.
