Dirty On Purpose:
Doug Marvin - Vocals, Drums
Erika Forster - Vocals, Keyboards
George Wilson - Guitar
DJ Boudreau - Bass
Joseph Jurewicz - Guitar

With awe-inspiring music that channels intense emotion, Dirty on Purpose, a Brooklyn, NY-based five-piece, has steadily built a stellar reputation for dynamic live shows filled with raw energy and an amazing list of songs that bleed like a fresh wound, sensitive and overwhelming. Guitarists Joseph Jurewicz and George Wilson perfectly complement each other with notes that shimmer with ominous, poetic beauty. Alternating vocals with keyboardist Erika Forster and drummer Doug Marvin echo influences like Belle and Sebastian, while songs featuring Jurewicz on vocals resonate with quirkier, higher ranges with no apparent precedent (or so we like to think). Bassist DJ Boudreau plays catchy, booming bass lines that heat up the inherent sense of loneliness, alienation and disappointment felt in the band's songs. Both haunting and alluring, in the end, Dirty on Purpose’s music conquers darkness and fear with optimistic strings of sparkling crescendos sure to leave listeners gasping in wonder and curiosity.

Practice For Having Sex

Press:

This EP first kicks off (“Monument”) with a repetitive melancholy guitar drone that lends affirmations to U2. Then “Go Back To Sleep” takes us through a trip of dream sequences with soothing yet rasping guitars. It is as if Slowdive, Mogwai, U2, and Ride were all one band. The EP ends (“Practice for Having Sex”) with a strong chorus combined with a continuing rise in volume that leads the listener at the end to a climax. - Crashin' In

"This Brooklyn, New York based band create beautifully shimmering, detailed rock. Cooing vocals, tasteful drumming (drummer Doug Marvin, also happens to handle lead vocals), gorgeous lilting keyboard, and lulling yet expansive guitar, join to create a varied swoonfest of a record. The standout track, "Go Back to Sleep," is a wash of lush sound. The song is utterly sensual with Doug and Keyboardist Erika Forster's soft vocals, and along with the understated drums, chiming guitars, and melodic bass, cradle and soothe." - Chad Merrit, R is for Revenge

"Dirty on Purpose's performance more than cemented their standing as one of the bastions of the current new crop "smart set" of bands in NYC." - Jasper Coolidge, jenyk/dot/com

"Here's a note to the A&R people: Does your label need a Sigur Ros, Mum, Album Leaf, Godspeed You Black Emperor!-type band? Or do you need another one? Well we found you one: Dirty on Purpose. 2 guitars. 1 bass. 1 singing drummer (think French Kicks pre-Hugh). 1 female keyboardist. One of the guitarists uses a bow, a la Sigur Ros, but he doesn’t have a wonky eye. They’ve got a good live sound, and their look is appropriate for their music. We saw them last night downstairs at the Knitting Factory and thought of you, and how you should check out the mp3s on their site. Because you like music. So to everyone that’s been on our asses about how great Mew is, this one is for you." - Laura Young, TheModernAge.org
